Smart Kids Letters and Sounds Validation

Smart Kids will be submitting our revised Letters and Sounds programme to the DfE on 29 November. We are very proud to be partnering with Dandelion Learning and Herts for Learning who will be providing teacher training for the programme. We are submitting all our existing materials including our decodable readers that match our progression so you can keep using these with confidence if the validation is successful.

Updated guidance with example lessons and daily lesson plans will be provided on this page in the coming weeks.

As part of our validation process we have made the following updates to our letters and sounds programme:

• Letter names and capital letters are now taught from phase 2.

• Word endings -est, -ing, -er, -ed /d/, /t/, /id/, -tch, -y, -ey, -ve, -le are taught explicitly at phase 4b.

• Phases have been further defined into 6 week periods (please see below).

Note for Teachers: please feel free to copy and paste any of the information provided on this page to your school's website.
